The 5 Facts of Life
by Dr. Robert C. Burch
There are 5 Basic Facts found ONLY in the Bible that are the Keys to the mystery of Man's existence.
FACT 1: Man was created to bring glory to God and to have fellowship with Him.
Man was created by God to depend upon Him and to have an intimate relationship with Him. As a result of this relationship, man would honor God by the way he lived.
MAN WAS CREATED
"Everyone who is called by my Name, whom I CREATED for my glory, whom I formed and made." (Isaiah 43:7)
TO BRING GLORY TO GOD
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the GLORY OF GOD." (I Corinthians 10:31)
TO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM
"What does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD." (Micah 6:8)
But isn't it apparent that the way most people live, they do not bring GLORY to God or really KNOW Him? What is the problem?
FACT 2: Sin has separated man from God
Although man was created to depend upon God and have an intimate relationship with Him, man rebelled against God and lives a life independent of God. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
is a Biblical word. Sin is man's rebellion against God that shows itself in sins such as indifference, frustration, irritability, resentment, worry, lying, cheating, lust, etc. (See Mark 7:21-23). "They ARE corrupt, they DO abominable deeds." (Psalm 14:1) "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way." (Isaiah 53:6)
HAS SEPARATED MAN FROM GOD
"You were...separated...alienated...having no hope without God in the world." (Ephesians 2:12) "But your iniquities have made a SEPARATION between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you." (Isaiah 59:2)
WHAT ABOUT GOOD WORKS?
SIN is a condition. Nothing MAN can DO by HIS OWN EFFORTS can overcome this separation. Some attempts men try are:
MORALITY (good deeds)- In God's sight, "All our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment." (Isaiah 64:6)
RELIGION (going to church, praying, rituals, etc.)- "This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; in vain do they worship Me." (Mark 7:6-7)
EXPERIENCES (Visions, signs, etc.)- "Taking his stand on visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind." (Colossians 2:18)
EDUCATION (knowledge, wisdom, intelligence, etc.)- "Since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom." (I Corinthians 1:21)
SINCERITY (honest conviction)- "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." (Proverbs 14:12)
Since we are under the penalty and power of SIN, is there any solution for this problem of SEPARATION? There is only ONE!
FACT 3: Jesus Christ is the eternal God who became Man - the Son of God.
Jesus Christ claimed to be God incarnate in the flesh - the unique Person in history. He was truly Man, yet truly God. One of His disciples said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
"In the beginning was the WORD (Jesus Christ), and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD...and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." (John 1:1, 14)
"Christ Jesus...though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being BORN IN THE LIKENESS OF MEN." (Philippians 2:6-7)
THE SON OF GOD
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; NO ONE comes to the Father, but by Me'." (John 14:6)
What would you say is the MAIN reason that Christ came?
FACT 4: Jesus Christ solved the problem of separation by His death and resurrection.
Jesus Christ's primary purpose in coming was to die on the cross, to be the sacrifice for man's sin. About the cross, Jesus said, "For this purpose I have come."
SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF SEPARATION
"For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might BRING US TO GOD." (I Peter 3:18)
Christ, "PUT AWAY SIN by the sacrifice of Himself." (Hebrews 9:26)
BY HIS DEATH AND RESURRECTION
"Christ DIED for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that He was buried, that He was RAISED on the third day in accordance with the scriptures." (I Corinthians 15:3-4)
Christ has solved the problem of SEPARATION! How can we benefit from His death and risen life?
FACT 5: One becomes a Christian by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ into his life.
You cannot know God unless you personally invite Christ into your life. God has given you a choice; He will not make you receive Christ. The Bible says, "He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life."
ONE BECOMES A CHRISTIAN BY RECEIVING
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift OF GOD." (Ephesians 2:8)
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST INTO HIS LIFE
"But to ALL who RECEIVED Him, who believed in His name, He gave power to become children of God." (John 1:12)
Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I WILL COME IN to him." (Revelation 3:20)
Would you like to know how to receive Christ?
HOW TO RECEIVE CHRIST
Receiving Christ is a total commitment of ourselves to God. It involves our mind, will, and emotion. We understand with our mind, decide with our will, and experience with our emotion. The emotional response will vary.
What you must do:
1. Realize - That you are a sinner.
2. Repent - Turn away from sin.
3. Receive - Through prayer, invite the Lord Jesus Christ to come into your life.
THEN MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER
Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I now repent of my sin.
Lord Jesus, I receive You into my life as my Savior and Lord right now.
Thank you for coming into my life.
Lord, make me into the type of person You want me to be.
In Jesus' Name...Amen!
HOW TO KNOW YOU HAVE RECEIVED CHRIST, AND THEREFORE, HAVE ETERNAL LIFE
Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I WILL COME IN TO HIM and eat with him, and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20).
Did you ask Jesus to come into your life?
Did you really mean it?
Then, where is He now in relation to your life? (Inside)
How do you know? (Jesus said He would.)
You CAN believe (trust, depend and rely upon) God! He will do what he promises. The Bible says God "never lies." (Titus 1:2)
If you did your part by inviting Christ into your life, then on the authority of God's Word, you can claim His presence - "I WILL COME IN TO HIM." Don't make the serious mistake of depending on your feelings. The promise of God's Word - and not your emotions - is your assurance.
The Christian who walks by faith and depends upon the truth of God's Word will be victorious.
Fact is like the Foundation of the house. It does not change. (I Corinthians 3:11)
Faith is like the House. It is built upon Fact and depends upon it. (Matthew 7:25)
Feeling is like the Weather. It is unpredictable, unreliable and constantly changing. (Ecclesiastes 11:4)
We must not depend upon our Feelings, but upon God's Facts!
GLORIFYING GOD AND KNOWING HIM
Now that you have received Christ into your life, you will want to get to know Him better. The Bible says, "That I may know Him." (Philippians 3:10). You belong to HIM and He belongs to you. You will want others to know this, "You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in you body." (I Corinthians 6:19-20).
PRINCIPLES OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH YOU NEED TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO GROW AS A CHRISTIAN
1.THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST- continue to trust Him and obey His Word. "He who...keeps My commandments, he it is who loves Me." (John 14:21)
2.WORD OF GOD- as you read and apply the written Word of God (the Bible), you will get to know the Living Word of God (Jesus Christ). "If you continue in My Word...you will know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will make you free." (John 8:31-32)
3.PRAYER- through prayer, you can share your life with God. "In everything by prayer...with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." (Philippians 4:6)
4.FELLOWSHIP- now that you are a member of God's family, you can know the joy of being with other Christians. "Together you may...glorify...God." (Romans 15:6)
5.WITNESSING- because of what has happened to you, you will want others to know of Jesus' love for them. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father." (Matthew 5:16)
