Who benefits from global warming scaremongering?
Bret Stephens answers this question in the Wall Street Journal:
Socialism may have failed as an economic theory, but global warming alarmism, with its dire warnings about the consequences of industry and consumerism, is equally a rebuke to capitalism. Take just about any other discredited leftist nostrum of yore – population control, higher taxes, a vast new regulatory regime, global economic redistribution, an enhanced role for the United Nations – and global warming provides a justification.

The global warming agenda is a farce. While the benefits of conservation efforts are something that remains to be seen, corporations touting environmentally-safe products, stores saving on having to give you receptacles to carry your purchases etc are reaping immense profits because you, the consumer, are helping them save costs — savings which never ever get passed on, as opposed to costs.
I was thinking more along the lines of political power, but yeah, there’s a whole commercial industry out there benefiting as well.
