If anything in this event, I think it should be seen as a sign of respect & humility. Plus, however the Emperor saw it going in, I doubt his views changed after the vow. This was a peaceful meeting, anyway. I almost wonder if Obama hadn't bowed as low, if things would've gone so well (maybe the Emperor would've seen him as being arrogant?)
