In a very odd way, this reminds me of something. I heard a commentary on the radio the other day by Gino Geraci, pastor of Calvary South Denver, who was commenting on a "This Date In History" event.

There used to be two political parties in the United States: the Democrats and the Whigs. The Democrats wanted to keep slavery. The Whigs just wanted everyone to get along. A group of people were not happy with slavery and didn't think that it was an issue that allowed for compromise. They all got together in a convention and formed a new political party.

They called themselves....Republicans.

This reminds me of the Council of Nicea, where Arius had some questionable beliefs regarding the divinity of Christ. Athanasius believed in the full divinity of Christ. Church historian Eusebius just wanted everyone to get along and, being buddies with Emperor Constantine, just wanted to stop the fighting, no doubt to retain peace in the Roman Empire. In the end, Athanasius triumphed and the compromise was unsuccessful.

History has shown that the truth will always prevail.
